5 Steps to Increase Your Personal Power
The benefits of increasing your personal power are greater influence, improved creativity, better health, and a greater sense of well-being. Here’s a few techniques to help you begin the process.
Say you will!Keep Getting Better
Applying the Japanese principle of kaizen (continuous improvement) to your chosen profession is a great way to increase your personal power. Your confidence increases proportional to your level of expertise. Take a moment to do an inventory of your talents. List them out and read them aloud. When your heart sings when reading a certain talent on your list, this is when you know you’ve identified one of your strengths. Now ask yourself what you can do to improve upon it?
Follow your heart. The more you do something, the better you get at it. Keep doing and keep improving. Before long you’ll be sought out as an expert.
Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin
No matter where you go, there you are. So why not bring along a good friend? As the saying goes, “what other people think of you is none of your business”. You determine your own destiny. Love yourself for who you are. Continue improving upon the areas that you think need it. A perceived weakness doesn’t mean you’re inept or incompetent. It’s just not one of your strengths. Find someone who has this strength and build a great team.
Develop Your Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)
Develop the discipline to think positively about yourself just the way you are. This acceptance opens the door to improvements and a positive mental attitude. Develop and practice seeing the positives in everything. Develop the discipline to build this characteristic in yourself – the choice is always yours. As Henry Ford said – “whether you say you can or can’t, either way you’re right.”
Track Your Successes
Focus on what you did right – your achievements and successes. Keep a daily log and track everything you succeeded at – big, small, and otherwise. The important thing is to give yourself reinforcement that you’re directionally correct. You’re constantly improving. This helps you increase your personal power and confidence.
Lose the Nay-Sayers
As you build your positive mental attitude (PMA) through your determination and discipline, you will develop an awareness of those who focus on what’s wrong in their life. Don’t let them hold you back. Maintain your PMA and don’t let anyone or anything destroy what you’ve created. Don’t give your power away to those who want to damage or diminish you. They aren’t your friends and definitely aren’t pulling for you to succeed.
Develop your sphere of positive influencers who want you to succeed and are there for you when needed.
